沥青玛蹄脂碎石混合料(Stone Matrix Asphalt)，是一种由沥青、纤维稳定剂、矿粉及少量的细集料组成的沥青玛蹄脂填充间断级配的粗集料骨架间隙组成一体的沥青混合料。在SMA混合料中，由于木质素纤维的吸附、稳定及多向加劲作用，可以较好地改善和提高沥青混合料的高温抗车辙性能、低温抗裂性能、抗滑能力和耐久性，是当前国际上公认的一种高低温性能、抗滑能力和耐久性较好的沥青面层混合料，因而被各国采用和研究，其中纤维稳定剂在混合料中的主要作用有:加劲、分散、吸附及吸收沥青、稳定及增粘作用。
